Most people assume weekday afternoons (when everyone’s at work) are the easiest time to grab a cancelled seat. The data says the opposite. Saturday showtimes see nearly twice the cancellation rate of the weekly average, even after normalizing for monitoring activity.

Saturday dominates: people make last-minute social decisions or prioritize other plans. Friday holds strong as groups lock in or reject other commitments. Sunday is surprisingly the hardest weekend day. We expect that by Sunday, the people who wanted those seats are committed to catching the showtime to avoid waiting another week.

Methodology
Analysis blends three proprietary data sources from SeatDrop. All events are keyed on showtime day-of-week (the day the movie screens). Day-of-week rates use medians to resist outlier days. Normalized by median active alerts per day to control for monitoring volume. Data range: March 21 – April 10, 2026. Golden window times represent hour-long buckets (e.g., “9 PM” includes all showtimes from 9:00–9:59 PM).
